Richard Lee Dutcher

Richard Lee Dutcher, 82, of Longview, passed away March 19, 2024.

He was born Nov. 2, 1941, in Eagle Rock, Calif. His family moved to Nebraska where Dick spent the first five years of his life and then returned to California in 1948 and lived in Tunga. His grandparents came west on the Oregon Trail.

Richard’s parents Harry and Irma and two older brothers preceded him in death.

He spent four years in the army and served at Mildenhall Air Force base near Leeds, England. He was in England for three years and came home in 1962. While in England he was a code breaker, a Cryptographer.

He met JoAnn LaGree in 1963 and they married in 1964. They were married for 60 years. Dick faithfully served JoAnn through a number of illnesses. 

Dick was a letter carrier for 34 years and retired in 1996. He set up a workshop in the garage. He loved his many projects, mostly working with wood. 

He went back to school and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in theology and biblical studies. Richard and JoAnn moved to Cathlamet in 2004. Dick was sent by Robert Gray Baptist Church to help Cathlamet Heritage Church. Dick loved teaching Sunday School and taught in all the churches they were involved in. He especially loved the 5th and 6^th grade age group. Richard also taught some classes for one year at the theological school he attended. 

All who knew Dick knew if he was your friend he would be faithful to you. He was a plain honest man that manifested honesty. Also it has been noted that he always finished what he started. 

Dick loved Jesus, Dick loved JoAnn, Dick loved the Word of God. Dick would want all to know the gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ.  

A graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 26 at Greenwood Cemetery in Cathlamet, Wash. A celebration of Dick's life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 18 at Robert Gray Baptist Church in Longview.
